History of the League of Exploration and Artifact Preservation

Age of Strife

What we know of the Age of Strife paints a picture of a singularly terrible time.  Every record and story we have obtained depicts a series of horrors, but our knowledge of the era is largely borrowed.  During this time we found ourselves prisoners to a vast cage that we have dubbed “The Great Labyrinth”.  Whatever can be recalled about life before the labyrinth, each of our forefathers has recounted simply awakening within, rolling out of bed to find themselves wandering stony halls.

Endless wonders appear to exist here.  Labyrinthine, truly - it took years to find any manner of exit.  Laboriously we charted as much as possible, and found then that the particular arrangements of the maze are subject to change.  Inside the various chambers we have discovered lie larders, libraries, conservatories, baths, and even windowed halls offering glimpses of the sky.  Needs are generally addressed by odd bounties found in curious places.

Shifting walls are indeed cause for concern.  Traps may spring up even as one walks “familiar” halls in search of breakfast!  Ranging beyond the most dangerous paths has proved fruitful, with some seniors among us boasting a repertoire of curios, books, and treasures.  Archiving such things is as much a pastime as we could have, imprisoned as we were.

Age of Discovery

New opportunities arose when at last an exit was discovered.  Great was our shame, however, in that we were rescued rather than finding our own way.  Explorers calling themselves ‘Wayfarers’ were ultimately able to lead us from this prison and up to the surface, in exchange for a hard bargained set of our rarer finds.

Access to the surface allowed us to communicate with a number of intriguing parties, each with a history that doesn’t appear to feature endless halls of mystery.  Eagerly we documented all we could learn of their pasts.  Our members became rededicated towards the preservation of this history, dubbing our organization the “League of Exploration and Artifact Preservation”.  New frontiers - The Wild - lie before us.

Several tablets such as the one below have been recovered from the labyrinth - we seek new members to add to our ranks in hopes of unraveling further mysteries.
